Examples of Driver Negligence

Unfortunately, accidents happen every day on New York’s busy system of roads. Those involved in the accidents may become seriously injured or even killed. There are a number of reasons that may be completely out of a driver’s control that can result in a car accident with another vehicle. Perhaps there were inclement weather conditions, such as heavy rain or ice, or the driver suffered a medical emergency behind the wheel, such as a heart attack. However, when a driver is distracted, they may cause a deadly accident that could have been completely avoided if they had been paying more attention or were simply more careful.

Some of the most common forms of driver negligence today include drivers who use their cell phones behind the wheel of the car. Phones do everything you could possibly need nowadays, such as GPS services, calls, emails, texts, video chatting, music services, and access to the entire Internet. Though state laws prohibit cell phone use when driving, it seems that more people than not are using these devices behind the wheel. When a driver is too occupied by their cell phone, not only are they breaking state laws, they are also putting their life and the lives of everyone around them in danger. Another example of driver negligence include those drivers who consume too much alcohol and then decide they are okay enough to drive home. Drunk driving accidents claim the lives of too many people every year and with all of the ride-hailing services and other options, there should be no reason to ever drive under the influence of alcohol.
