Governor Andrew Cuomo on behalf of the New York State Police has announced that Speed Week will run between June 7th and June 13th, as an annual campaign to enforce speeding regulations. Each year, 42,000 people across the United States are killed in traffic accidents, with hundreds of thousands of motorists and passengers becoming seriously injured. Traffic accidents are the leading cause of death for Americans between the ages of 3 and 33 years old. Enforcing speeding laws in New York state can help protect the lives of innocent motorists and their families who are just trying to get from point A to point B.

Thousands of drivers across the state are pulled over for aggressive and reckless driving. Driving without any regard for other motorists and passengers puts not only your life but everyone else’s lives at risk. New York State Police officers plan to crack down not only on speeding, but also on drivers that are distracted on their cell phones or fail to move over for emergency vehicles. Last year, this campaign resulted in the issuance of over 21,000 traffic tickets, the majority of them being for speeding.
