With Memorial Day this weekend, many New Yorkers will be travelling throughout the state to get to their celebrations in an effort to kick off the summer. Law enforcement across New York State will be partnering up this weekend to promote seatbelt safety with a campaign called Click It or Ticket. This plan will enforce that all drivers wear their seatbelts to encourage safe driving during Memorial Day Weekend. The campaign runs between May 22 and June 4, 2017.

Not only is New York State participating in a campaign to enforce a zero tolerance rule about seatbelts, they are also using this time to crack down on driving while intoxicated. The primary goal behind these crackdowns are to truly enforce safety amongst drivers. The best way to protect yourself from serious injury or death if you are in a car accident is by wearing a seatbelt. In fact, according to the CDC, up to age 30, car accidents are the leading cause of death for Americans. Wearing a seatbelt in a car can reduce your chance to be seriously injured or killed in a motor vehicle accident by at least 50 percent. New York State is only one of many states that is participating in the Click It or Ticket campaign, joining surrounding states such as New Jersey and Connecticut.

If you have been injured in a motor vehicle accident, it is important that you contact an experienced personal injury attorney today. Make sure to drive safely, sober, and with a seatbelt this Memorial Day and every day of the year.
