Who pays for my accident related injuries?

emergency room signOne of the big concerns for anyone injured in an accident is how are they going to pay for their medical expenses? Some are simple. If it is an automobile case, you are covered by the no-fault insurance policy which covers that particular car. You would fill out an application to make a claim for no-fault benefits. They would pay your medical expenses and a portion of your lost earnings expenses up to the limits of the policy, or until the insurance company decides that you no longer need those medical services.

If you are injured on the job, you are covered by worker’s compensation coverage. Worker’s compensation will pay medical expenses and a portion of your lost earnings as well. If you’re injured while walking on a sidewalk or in a roadway, there is no insurance available to you like no-fault or worker’s compensation. You may have coverage through your own health insurance. That, in all likelihood, will cover your medical expenses. It will not compensate you for lost earning unless you have some type of a disability policy.

For out of pocket expenses, some commercial liability policies provide what is called medical payment coverage. If you have out of pocket expenses for deductibles or medications that are not covered by your health insurance, an application can be made to that insurance company, to the building or landowner’s insurance company, if they have that type of coverage, and normally that’s paid back on a dollar for dollar basis up to the policy limit. That’s a very straightforward procedure.
