Premises Liability on Halloween

Halloween is just around the corner and while kids across the country are excited, it is important that parents and property owners keep safety in mind. As children run from house to house trying to get as much Halloween candy as they can, it is easy for them to trip and fall because of a danger on somebody’s property.

Many property owners living in neighborhoods that are popular for trick or treaters will decorate their homes and lawns with fake gravestones, pumpkins, and other festive Halloween decorations. However, when children run from door to door only thinking about how much candy they can get, they may not pay much attention and trip. Now, of course, the property owner probably didn’t mean for anyone to get hurt when they were trying to make their homes as inviting to trick or treaters as possible, but they can end up in a legal battle if someone is injured.

It is important that as you decorate your property for Halloween, you keep in mind the safety of anyone who may enter your property. If someone is injured on your property, they may be subject to high medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering. Every year, thousands of children are injured on Halloween. However, this is not to say that parents don’t get injured too. Property owners should make sure that their property is well-lit and that there isn’t anything that can cause a person to trip and fall.
