I Was Injured While Shopping In A Store. What Should I Do?

Often, people shopping in stores will be injured, unfortunately. It happens more often than you think. Sometimes these injuries can happen because the store is not designed properly. There are standards and codes that govern the way that certain types of stores should be set up, including the width of the aisles so shopping carts can navigate them without knocking displays over onto people. In some situations, shelves can be overloaded with merchandise, causing them to fall on top of people. In fitting rooms or dressing rooms, people are trying on clothes so they are barefoot. There may be protrusions from pieces of furniture or other sharp objects on the ground that may cause what seems to be a superficial injury, but in reacting to that injury, the person could take a bad fall or really be seriously injured.

It is important when handling a case such as a retail store accident that you consult with an attorney as soon as you can. It is also important that if this does happen to you, make sure the store knows that you were injured when it happened. If you’re seriously injured, ask for medical assistance. If you’re not seriously injured, make sure you go to the manager or someone, tell them what happened to you and point it out to them because a month, or two months, or a year later if you’re seriously injured and you’re going to make a claim for what happened to you, they’re going to say they know nothing about it because it was never reported to them. It’s important to let them know as soon as you can even if you’re not considering making a claim because you never know what will happen.
